Connectivity Lab

At the Connectivity Lab I had the opportunity to lead design for multiple impactful and exciting products, including cellular network analytics, fiber optics planning, new generation connectivity hardware, and disaster mapping for emergency response.

Connectivity is a relatively new term. From my perspective it means the availability of information to people all over the world. In the same way the plumbing and electricity are now consider human rights in many ways, information has a similar level of importance in society and is one of the main indicators of social mobility in emerging markets.

The work consisted of traveling the world talking to the executive staff of the largest telecoms in the world to understand the pain points of building scaled networkers in various geographic and market conditions. This evolved rapidly as the market opportunity unfolded. The process involved an iterative process of building software at the brand, creation, and consumption levels of the customer life cycle then bringing solutions to various internal stakeholders and establishing a product direction that would yield more value. At the same time I became the point person for the most innovative hardware opportunities at the Facebook Connectivity Lab. I worked with the Data for Good team to build out the first prototype of the disaster mapping project. I designed the portal for analysing Aquila data, Aquila being the giant internet drone that was discontinued in 2018. I was the art director and primary product designer for Terragraph, a new and innovative urban connectivity replacement for fiber using microwave beam forming.
